Why is Lil' Wayne so popular?

I just don't get it. All my friends love him and I can't stand him. All he does is rap about money and "women" yet people think he has sick lines. He has no flow whatsoever compared to rappers like Rakim and Lupe yet he's 10x more popular. I honestly think I could be a better rapper than him if I committed to it. Can someone please explain what this funny lookin guys appeal is?
