Serious period question. i reallllly need good advice, PLEASE HELP!!!?

Im going to chicago, illinois this weekend with my dad and my new stepmom. last week i had like liiiiiittttllle tiny spotting (i think) i i have had slight cramps the last two days and my mom got her period right around this time. So should i be prepared to get it soon and should i bring pads to chicago with me? PLEASE HELP cuz im confused
