diffusion..simple diffusion, is the movement of ions down their concentration gradient from high concentration to low, through a semi-permeable membrane. The movement ends when there are equal amounts on both sides of the membrane. This process requires no energy input. Facilitated diffusin is also FREE but the ion/ molecule is not permeable through the membrane ..so it is helped through by binding to a facilitator protein.It still follows the concentration gradient to drive it but is not permeable to the membrane on its own.
